In September 2007, Warrington Borough Council granted outline permission to Peel Investments for residential development on the site of a former timber yard on the bank of the Manchester Ship Canal and the creation of a linear park on the adjacent disused arm of the River Mersey which lies on the route of the Trans Pennine Trail.
We helped Peel by:
- preparing the masterplan and Design and Access Statement
- coordinating the Environmental Statement
- assisting in public consultation
In doing this we had to bear particular regard to:
- the prominence of the residential site
- the habitat value of the old river arm
- the frequency of flooding of the river
- the need to protect and interpret the disused tidal locks between the canal and the river
David Wilson Homes bought the residential site from Peel in April 2008 and retained our services to assist them by:
- designing the external layout
- preparing a supplementary Design and Access Statement
- conducting a public consultation exercise
The detailed application was approved by Warrington Borough Council in January 2009 |
