In September 2007, Warrington Borough Council granted outline permission to Peel Investments for residential development on the site of a former timber yard on the bank of the Manchester Ship Canal and the creation of a linear park on the adjacent disused arm of the River Mersey which lies on the route of the Trans Pennine Trail. The Linear Park will form an important connection in Warrington’s strategic recreational links.
We helped Peel by:
- preparing the masterplan and Design and Access Statement
- coordinating the Environmental Statement
- assisting in public consultation
In doing this we had to bear particular regard to:
- the prominence of the residential site
- the habitat value of the old river arm
- the frequency of flooding of the river
- the need to protect and interpret the disused tidal locks between the canal and the river
As part of the detailed planning application we have continued to help Peel by
- developing the scheme in detail, working closely with ecologists and engineers.
- preparing the detailed submission to Warrington BC.
- coordinating a landscape and engineering supplement to the outline Design and Access Statement.
