Cambourne Allotments
Randall Thorp were responsible for designing two separate allotment areas on Cambourne with nearly 70 full plots each. Crow Hill Allotment has been open since 2005 and so successful that the Cambourne Allotment Society are currently managing a 25 person waiting list.
Upper Cambourne Allotments was completed in 2008 and is now ready for occupation by new plot holders.
Cambourne Community Orchard
Community Orchards are a traditional feature of the South Cambridgeshire landscape. Randall Thorp included a site for a new orchard in the structural landscape plan, having recognised that the creation and management of orchards can educate and help foster a sense of community, as well as contributing to the site's biodiversity.
Detailed design was undertaken by Randall Thorp consulting with the Wildlife Trust for Cambridgeshire and Common Ground to provide a variety of fruiting trees including apple, pears, plums and damsons using many local varieties.
In 2005 the Wildlife Trust for Cambridgeshire took ownership of the orchard site and with the help of Cambourne residents have since planted it |
