The proposals required careful consideration of local character, the separation of settlements and the setting of the Mendip Hills National Landscape. Our landscape assessment informed a masterplan and landscape strategy that sought to integrate new housing into its surroundings while maintaining key views and settlement separation.
We prepared the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment and subsequently provided landscape expert evidence at a public inquiry. This included preparing a Proof of Evidence and giving oral evidence on local character, settlement coalescence and effects on the setting of the National Landscape.
The appeal was allowed on 18 September 2025, securing outline planning permission for up to 78 homes. The Inspector concluded that the benefits of the development outweighed the limited landscape harm identified.
