Women in Property visit: The Retreat

Dick was delighted to join our client, Georgina Leech of PJ Livesey, to provide Women in Property Yorkshire & North East with an exclusive site visit to The Retreat, York.

Founded in 1796 by Quaker philanthropist William Tuke, The Retreat played a pioneering role in the history of mental healthcare. Today, its Grade II listed buildings and 30 acres of registered parkland are being sensitively transformed into a new community of heritage and newly built homes, as PJ Livesey brings new life to one of the country’s most significant historic estates.

Dick and Georgina explained how PJ Livesey is approaching the complex challenge of preserving the site’s architectural and historic landscape character while creating high-quality, sustainable homes for modern living.

The visit offered a fascinating insight into the development process, including the conversion of historic buildings, new-build design, the challenges of historic landscape restoration, and how PJ Livesey is giving this remarkable site a new lease of life.
